What labor-only means

With labor-only service, we provide the movers and you provide the truck, trailer, or container. Our crew handles loading and unloading, the heavy lifting and placement, and the disassembly and reassembly of furniture. We'll coordinate apartment walk-ups and elevators, too.

It's a good fit if you're trying to keep costs down by driving a rental yourself, but you'd rather not find out the hard way how much a solid-wood armoire weighs.

Jobs this covers

Rental truck moves come first. If you've booked a U-Haul, a Penske, or any other rental truck, trailer, or van, we'll load it or unload it, or both if you're staying local. For loading jobs, you provide the furniture pads and the rope or straps that secure the load, since they travel with the truck.

Container moves work the same way. With PODS, U-Pack, and similar containers, how it's packed matters, because you won't be there when it travels. We load containers tightly and securely so things don't shift in transit.

We also do storage unit load-ins and load-outs, in-home furniture rearranging when you're redesigning a space or clearing a room for renovation, and store-to-home delivery help when you've bought something big and need it moved from the driveway into place.

Senior transitions and downsizing fit here as well. Moving a few rooms of furniture within a home or into a smaller place calls for gentle, respectful help, and that's what we bring.

What's not included

We'd rather be clear about this up front than have a misunderstanding on the day.

There's no truck or transportation with this service. You provide the vehicle. Our team also doesn't drive your rental or personal vehicle, so you or someone you trust will need to be behind the wheel. And packing materials like boxes and tape aren't included unless you arrange them with us ahead of time.

Our crew brings dollies and tools. Furniture pads and the rope or straps that secure a load are yours to provide on labor-only jobs, because they stay with your truck or container.

If it turns out you'd rather have us handle the truck too, take a look at our local moving service. And if it's the boxes you're dreading, packing can be added on its own.

How labor-only is priced

Labor-only help is $195 to $215 an hour for a three-person crew, with a three-hour minimum, and each additional mover adds $50 an hour. Your estimate will spell out the rate and the crew we'd recommend.

The way to keep the bill down is to be ready. Have everything boxed and staged near the door, have the truck parked as close as you can get it, and have the path clear. A crew that can start carrying the minute they arrive finishes sooner.
